Overview

Whatever the reason that you’re staying, you will find that this well-placed Hampshire town is as large as many cities and has at least as much or even more to offer guests as when staying in city apartments; Basingstoke making an excellent base for business travellers coming to this area of the UK.

About Basingstoke

Situated in the northern reaches of Hampshire, the location of Basingstoke ensures excellent connectivity with both the south coast and London. Bordered by the M3 to the south, the A33 snakes northeast from the town and the A339 northwest towards the North Wessex Downs. Basingstoke’s railway station sits on the London Waterloo line, while CrossCountry services also run to Southampton and up to Manchester Piccadilly.

Those coming to stay in serviced apartments in Basingstoke will find that this large town of well over a hundred thousand people is more than just somewhere on the way to other places.  There are plenty of business opportunities in Basingstoke and a variety of things to do. For one thing, the town has its own park where you could partake in indoor skydiving, ice skating and visit the Aqua Dome, a swimming centre that has three pools and water flumes to enjoy. As well as these exceptional activities, Basingstoke Park also has more familiar attractions like a bowling alley, cinema and plenty of great places to eat out.

Growing demand for accommodation in Basingstoke is at least in part a result of its successful business identity, with many major brands that would like to be close to London – but not necessarily in London – choosing to locate there. Major examples include Barclays, Sony and the AA, while there are significant business presences in other areas like pharmaceuticals, engineering and IT.

If you’re planning to do some shopping in Basingstoke during a short stay, many of the best shops are conveniently located in the heart of the CBD and within just a few minutes’ walk of the train station.  The two best known shopping centres in the town are Festival Place and the aptly named ‘The Malls’ shopping centre, although there is also Chineham Shopping, which lies further out and includes food stores and more out-of-town brands.

While staying in Basingstoke self-catering apartments, there are plenty of options for days out. More relaxing and cultural activities might include visits to the Willis Museum at the top of the town, which details the area’s history and archaeological heritage, or if gin is your thing, perhaps you might enjoy a visit to the Bombay Sapphire Distillery at Laverstoke Mill about nine miles roughly west of the town. There are also some more outdoor and – arguably – adventurous things to try out when staying in Basingstoke, such as a balloon flight with Adventure Balloons who run out of the town centre, or perhaps gliding from Lasham Airfield less than six miles to the south of town.

Whatever the reason that you’re staying, you will find that this well-placed Hampshire town is as large as many cities and has at least as much or even more to offer guests as when staying in city apartments; Basingstoke making an excellent base for business travellers coming to this area of the UK.
