About Kings Cross

Kings Cross is an area in North London that includes two of London’s major train stations, Kings Cross and St Pancras International, which interconnect to form one major rail hub. Kings Cross Station is a major route between London and the North of England, while since 2007, Eurostar rail services have run out of St Pancras International. Although a major destination for business travellers, there is more to Kings Cross than just a train station and, like many London districts, Kings Cross has a little of its own flavour and plenty to do.

So okay, first things first, you’ve just settled into your serviced apartment in King’s Cross and you’ve got a little bit of time to kill, so obviously, your first priority will be to track down Platform 9 ¾. It really is there at King’s Cross Station and you don’t even have to be enrolled into Hogwarts to find it. However, if you’re looking for Platform 9 ¾ on a weekend, there may be little queueing involved. And, of course, there’s plenty of Harry Potter merchandise in the shop there, too. Another great thing to do before you’ve even left the station, or perhaps just as you’re leaving the station, is to actually look around St Pancras. This stunning Victorian building was completed in 1868 and features a statue of John Betjeman.

If you’re looking for a place to eat while staying in Kings Cross accommodation, you really don’t have to stray too far from the area of the transport hub to find an enormous choice of eateries, both cafes and restaurants, as well as food that is of the faster variety. There is also an excellent choice of bars, although one of the most notable is again back at St Pancras Station, where you can enjoy a glass of champagne at Europe’s longest champagne bar. The area around the transport hub is also packed with popular shops, in the two stations themselves and in the streets surrounding them.

However, as already mentioned, Kings Cross is not just about the area around the train stations. Regents Canal bisects the district and the area next to the Regents Canal Towpath and St Pancras Lock is filled with trendy bars and businesses. Universal Music has an office there and Coal Drops Yard is due to open in Autumn 2018, providing an exciting new shopping destination for Kings Cross. Granary Square, known for its dancing fountains, is right next to the water and has some of the area’s best eateries The Lighterman, overlooking the canal, is one such place and makes an excellent spot for some food and drink, especially when the weather is good.

Also a bit of an artistic hub, if you’re in Kings Cross on a short stay it will be difficult to take in all that this relatively small area has to offer. Kings Place is a music and arts venue where it is also possible to get something to eat. Kings Cross also has an Everyman Cinema, a rather different kind of cinema experience where moviegoers can relax on a comfortable sofa and have food brought to them while they watch the movie. The House of Illustration is, as the name suggests, the world’s first gallery open to the public that is dedicated to illustration, while theatre lovers staying at city apartments in Kings Cross can visit the Platform Theatre at Central Saint Martins, which has an extraordinary range of different performances.
