About Macclesfield

Why Serviced Apartments in Macclesfield?

When travelling for business, the most popular choice in the past has always been to stay in a hotel. However, more and more people are choosing serviced apartments, and given that they are usually larger, available at a lower price and altogether a more flexible option, perhaps this is no surprise. The business traveller will be able to cook their own meals and wash their clothes in these properties, thanks to washing facilities and fully equipped kitchens including everything guests would expect. Free Wi-Fi is accessible too, meaning corporate guests can live and work freely in the spacious bedrooms and living rooms.

Some of the serviced apartments in Macclesfield are in the buzzy town centre locations, within walking distance of bars, pubs and restaurants, while others are in locations that might be quieter but also further away from the hustle and bustle. It is all a matter of personal preference which one the business traveller chooses. Furthermore, both long and short term lets in Macclesfield offer housekeeping and laundry services, making stays in the town just that little bit more comfortable compared to a holiday home or hotel stay.

Where is Macclesfield?

Macclesfield is located 16 miles south of Manchester city centre, in the north-west of England. It is in the historical county of Cheshire and is the second largest town in the Cheshire East council area, with a population of approximately 51,000.

Cheshire is famous for its ‘Golden Triangle’, the extremely affluent area populated by Premier League footballers, property tycoons and self-made millionaires. Prestbury, one of the villages in the Triangle, is just two miles away, while Wilmslow and Alderley Edge, the small towns that mark the other points of the Triangle, are nine and six miles away respectively.

In terms of travelling to major cities, Macclesfield has direct rail connections to London and is close to Manchester Airport and the M56 and M60 motorways. Self catering accommodation in Macclesfield is based near the various transport facilities, enabling easy travel in and out of the town.

Business in Macclesfield

Macclesfield has several large business parks, such as Tytherington and Hurdsfield on the northern side of the town and Lyme Green to the south. One of the biggest names in the global pharmaceutical industry has significant premises on the Hurdsfield estate.

Otherwise, service industries dominate the local economy. Financial services are especially important, which isn’t surprising given the prosperity of the East Cheshire population. The proximity of Macclesfield to the Golden Triangle is evident from the number of high-end furniture stores and car showrooms that can be seen in the town!

Businesses might like to look at what support they can get from the following sources:

·        Macclesfield Chamber of Commerce – which provides advice to local businesses, helps them promote their products and services and facilitates networking via a busy social calendar.

·        Macclesfield Town Business Networking – which hosts events with guest speakers, and also allows attendees to give presentations about their own businesses and to network with other members.

·        Macclesfield Means Business – a discussion forum that seeks to engage key decision makers within the local community.

Corporates staying in serviced apartments in Macclesfield will be encouraged by the generally low levels of unemployment in the town as well.

Things to Do in Macclesfield

The most exclusive residential neighbourhoods are in the towns and villages outside the town. However, some areas of Macclesfield are genuinely charming old-world residential neighbourhoods that are themselves very pleasant places to live. Macclesfield proudly maintains two of its oldest traditions to this day. The town is nicknamed ‘Treacletown’ as local legend says that, many centuries ago, a horse-drawn wagon spilt its load of treacle on to the road. The poorer locals duly feasted by scooping the treacle off the cobbles. Now, Macclesfield hosts a monthly Treacle Market, a huge gathering of artisan food, drink and craft vendors.

The Barnaby Fair was first celebrated in Macclesfield in the 12th century. It was revived in the 21st century as the Barnaby Festival, and it is now a biennial celebration of all forms of arts and culture at venues across the town. Another nickname for Macclesfield is ‘Silktown’ and its silk manufacturing heritage is celebrated at the town centre Silk Museum and the adjacent Paradise Mill, also open to the public.

The Salt Bar is quickly establishing a reputation for its eclectic food and drink offering. It offers Scandinavian dishes alongside a great range of local ales and a superb cocktail menu. The Bay is an established and well-regarded traditional charcoal grill Turkish restaurant in the town centre. For a daytime eating option, there’s Rustica, where the day begins with a hearty English breakfast, followed by a great Mediterranean-inspired lunch.
