Switzerland’s largest and most populous city is a world leader for finance, as well as hub within its own country. As an added bonus, Zurich is located in a beautiful and stunning landscape, making it at perfect city to visit both for business and pleasure.
Business travellers require short term accommodation in Zürich for a variety of reasons. Switzerland is well-respected as a country for doing business and Zürich, the country’s capital, is almost a byword for finance, banking and investment in Europe, even though – and in many cases because – it isn’t a direct member state of the European Union. But Zürich is also a renowned centre for technology and engineering, with the university having been part of winning many Nobel prizes. Not only have major international tech companies like Google and IBM been setting up significant parts of their operations there, but it has also become a popular choice for tech start-ups.
Founded by the Romans, Zürich sits on the River Limmat just as it empties out into the Zürichsee and has been a permanent area of settlement for over 2000 years. Perhaps it is all that practice that has helped to give Zürich such a high quality of living, as it regularly ranks highly in quality of living and liveability surveys. Look at any map of Switzerland and you will see how it is a hub for the road network, although Zürich is just as much a central point for rail and air travel, with Zürich International Airport, where guests coming to our accommodation may well arrive, sitting about six miles from the centre.
Zürich is exceptionally good in its use of public transport, with about half the journeys taken within the municipality being via public means. While you’re staying in our serviced apartments in Zürich, you will probably find yourself getting around the city either on bus or using the extensive tram system. Zürich is also in the middle of an initiative aimed at making the city centre more bike-friendly.
Known locally as the Zürichsee, or ‘Lake Zürich’, the city sits at one end of an enormous body of water, which can be explored by taking a boat trip – or hiring your own – but can be equally well enjoyed on a bike as you cycle along the shore. Or, rollerblading… a popular way to get around too, apparently. The Old Town in Zürich is also a must-see when you are staying in our city apartments there. Located centrally on the eastern side of the River Limmat, it is a jumble of tight medieval alleyways opening out into small squares, with an impressive mix of earlier medieval and Renaissance houses and churches.
Although it may not be part of the traditional perception of the Swiss people, Zürich is actually quite a good place to party. The area west of the Limmat tends to hold the best bars and, in particular, the best night clubs. For shopping, the pedestrianised Bahnofstrasse is great for well known brands and department stores.
We have a range of temporary housing available in Zürich, along the shores of Zürichsee, in the Old Town and also convenient for the main train station.
